Our Anxiety Relief Retreat is a specially designed program aimed at helping you understand and manage anxiety in a calm and supportive environment. Our retreats run from 10 AM to 2:30 PM and provide a comprehensive blend of physical activities, educational talks, and therapeutic practices tailored to those seeking relief from anxiety.
2024 Dates:
Saturday 7th December
10:00 AM – Welcome and Gentle Movement
As someone experiencing anxiety, you may arrive at the retreat feeling a little stressed and unsure. To help combat this and shift your mindset, our retreats begin with a brief introduction to your facilitator for the day, followed by some gentle exercises designed to release tension and promote a sense of calm. This is not a fitness class, and you do not need to be physically active to take part. It is simply an opportunity to move your body and burn off any pent-up anxiety.
10:45 AM – Guided Meditation and Breathing Exercises
After some gentle movement, you'll participate in a guided meditation and breathing exercises. Breathing deeply is fundamental to managing anxiety, but it can also be a source of stress, especially for those experiencing chest tightness or shallow breathing. This session is designed to gently coax you into breathing deeply and re-establishing a connection with your body.
11:30 AM – Talk: The Science of Anxiety
Anxiety, like all bodily functions, has a scientific basis. This session helps you gain valuable insights into that science and understand what happens in your body during an anxiety episode. This talk aims to demystify anxiety and your body's response to it, empowering you with knowledge to regain a sense of control.
12:15 PM – Break - Tea and Cake
During the break, you'll be provided with tea and cake. Dealing with anxiety is hard work, and you should be rewarded with things that taste good! However, you are welcome to bring a healthy alternative if you prefer.
1:00 PM – Everyday Strategies for Managing Anxiety
This session builds on the scientific insights from earlier and covers tips and tools that can be easily applied to help you navigate the daily challenges of living with anxiety. Rather than simply reminding you to breathe, these strategies are designed to address the biological responses occurring in your body in practical, usable ways.
1:30 PM – Journaling and Recording Triggers
Understanding your triggers can significantly help you identify the root causes of your anxiety and develop strategies to combat these triggers before a spiral can occur. This session will provide guidance on effective journaling practices that can lead to greater self-awareness and help you better understand your own anxiety. Each attendee will be provided with a complimentary journal.
2:00 PM – Sharing Experiences
Discussing mental health and personal experiences can be daunting, but sharing your story and realizing you're not alone can be immensely beneficial. No one is required to talk; just listening is perfectly acceptable. All our facilitators have extensive experience with anxiety and are happy to share their own stories.

This retreat is designed and delivered by Kate Robbins, one of the co-founders of Posture and Poise. Kate began experiencing symptoms of chronic anxiety in her teens. Although these were manageable at the time, a serious car accident in her 20s led to a diagnosis of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Health Anxiety, causing her anxiety to spiral beyond her control.
Kate then spent ten years struggling with the effects of chronic anxiety, which at its worst led to agoraphobia and deep depression. She has faced everything from panic attacks, vertigo, chest pain, cluster headaches, hypochondria, blurred vision, insomnia, and muscle pain to a weakened immune system, social anxiety, paranoia, hysteria, and mental health stigma during her battle with anxiety.
Now in her 40s, Kate has a good handle on her anxiety and runs a successful business born out of her desire to create a life that works for her. Over the past twenty years, she has come to understand her anxiety and find solutions and strategies that have helped her move from being a virtual recluse, unable to work or maintain healthy relationships, to a place where she now feels happy and in control.
During this time, Kate has gained a wealth of information on anxiety, its causes, its biology, the wide range of treatment options available, and what works in terms of self-help. She understands anxiety and the battle to manage it through her firsthand experience and is determined to share this knowledge to help others who are struggling to live their lives.
Kate herself is an extremely easy-going and compassionate individual who understands that everyone’s anxiety journey is different. She believes that talking about and sharing her experiences with anxiety not only helps her but can provide vital support and insight to others. Her firsthand experience means that she understands the black hole that is chronic anxiety, and she has a strong desire to help others navigate this difficult period in their lives.
Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental health conditions affecting individuals worldwide. In the UK alone, approximately 8.2 million peoplesuffer from anxiety disorders, with women nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed as men. Anxiety can manifest in various forms, including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and specific phobias.
Mental and Physical Impact of Anxiety
Mental Health Effects: Anxiety can lead to severe emotional distress, affecting mood, concentration, and decision-making. It often co-occurs with other mental health disorders, such as depression, leading to compounded challenges.
Physical Health Effects: Chronic anxiety is associated with numerous physical symptoms, including increased heart rate, high blood pressure, digestive issues, and chronic pain. It can also weaken the immune system, making individuals more susceptible to illnesses.
The prevalence of anxiety highlights the need for effective strategies and interventions to help individuals manage and overcome these challenges. Our retreat offers a holistic approach to anxiety relief, combining education, physical activity, and community support to empower participants.
We look forward to welcoming you to our Anxiety Relief Retreat, where you can explore tools and strategies to reclaim your peace and well-being in a nurturing and understanding setting.
